I remember someone shaking me to wake me up. I jolted awake when I realized that we were at the new house. I was so excited to explore my new home. But I was also really nervous. I already met my new "parents", I wouldn't be meeting Andy for another week, so what was I so nervous about? Oh yeah. They wanted me to start school as soon as possible. I heard something in the car about how they already got me a school schedule, and how Amy was going to take me out to get school supplies while Brock stayed and unloaded my things. I wasn't ready to start school that soon, but I knew they were only trying to help get my life back to some form of normalcy as quickly as possible, which I appreciated. But I knew my life would never be normal again. That ended when my parents died.

I hopped out of the car, and I took a second to balance myself. I used my hand to block the sunlight from my eyes. The house was little and cute. It looked like a one story house with big windows in the front. The white paint reflected against the sunlight, and I had to cover my eyes even more. Amy took my arm and led me towards the front door.

"C'mon Toril. You can explore the house for a little bit before we go out and get you your school supplies. We're not rushing you into things too quickly, are we?" she wondered. I wiped my feet off on a mat in front of the door and shook my head, following her inside.

"No, of course not," I replied. Of course, I was being sarcastic, but I didn't let her know that. I didn't mind everything else, but I was definitely being rushed into school too quickly for my own good. I knew they were only trying to help me get some form of normalcy back in my life.

I looked around at my new home. It was a quaint little house. The dining room connected to the living room and kitchen, and the hallway was over to the left. It had a sofa against the wall and a glass coffee table. It kind of reminded me of little beach houses I'd seen in movies, which was odd, because we were in Ohio. I half smiled at my surroundings and headed off down the hallway.

There were two bedrooms, a guest room, a bathroom, and two closets. I peered into the bedroom on the left. The walls were purple with black vertical stripes, so I figured it was mine. It was really cool of them to paint it for me. There was a closet, a window, a bed, a dresser, a desk, and a tiny TV in there. There was also a mirror above my dresser. I walked over and stared at my reflection. I thought to myself "This is it. This is the beginning of your new life. Might as well embrace it." I walked over and sat on the bed. The sheets were green and black striped, and they were also very soft. I was amazed at how much they were doing for me. I was grateful for it but very amazed. I looked out the window and saw Brock starting to unload my stuff, so I figured I should go out and help. I headed off down the hallway, turning around and taking another look once I reached the front door.

I headed outside and over to Brock's car. Amy was handing him boxes, I started to reach out for some stuff, but she stopped me.

"Well, now that you're done, we can head out and run some errands to get you settled in," she told me, "I'll see you later, dear." Her and Brock kissed, and the two of us headed over to her car. I fanned myself with my hand. It was so freaking hot outside. Sometimes, I wondered how I could wear pants all year 'round.

"Umm, Amy? If you don't mind me asking, what was Andy's response when you sent him my picture? And what errands are we running?" I wondered. I hopped in the front seat, and we backed out of the driveway and headed off. She pulled the message up on her phone to show me.

"He said "You got a BVB army member, well done :) She looks nice. Can't wait to meet her"," she read, closing her phone and setting it down beside her, "And we're just going to get you some school supplies, add you to our phone plan, and do some grocery shopping. Is there anything about your diet that I should know about? Do you have any allergies? Are you a vegetarian? A vegan? Anything of that nature?" I shook my head in reply. Once we picked up the speed on the back roads, I unrolled the window, trying to get a cool breeze going.

"No, nothing like that. I'm open to anything. I'll try anything at least once, and there's not much I don't like," I told her. I stared out the window at the passing trees. For the first time in years, I felt happy. I was no longer cooped up in that whorehouse, where I had to be bitter and sarcastic all the time. Bitter and sarcastic were part of my personality, but now that my life was back to as normal as it was going to get, I didn't have to be sarcastic and bitter 'round the clock. I really enjoyed it. I smiled to myself and turned back to Amy.

"Well, that makes things very easy for us," she commented, "where would you like to go first?" I shrugged. This was all happening so quickly, I felt like I was suffering front jet lag. But I wasn't about to make that obvious. I felt like Amy and I were bonding pretty well though. I was never going to be as close with them as my real parents, and I was never going to call them Mom and Dad, no matter how close we became. I knew I wouldn't be able to handle that.

"Truthfully, it doesn't matter to me," I told her.

"To the phone store it is them," Amy announced. We took a turn and headed for the phone store.

When we got there, she got me all situated and set up on their plan. I also got a phone. It was nothing fancy, but it was really nice to have one. After that, we headed to Target to grab me some school shit. There was still some cool looking stuff left, even though school had started a few weeks ago. Once that was done, we made our way over to a local grocery store. We got a lot of fresh fruit, which made me VERY happy. I was starting to like my new life.

The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was starting school tomorrow. I was told that I would be dropped off in the morning, and I would have to ride the bus home. That didn't thrill me at all. But I said I wanted to finish off at a regular high school, so I guess I was getting exactly what I wanted.
